HashHackCode Creative Series

Apply the Thinking

The Creative Series develops the capability to turn ideas into purposeful work through structured, project-based learning across coding, design, language and mathematics. Learners progress from understanding core concepts and tools to planning, creating, testing and improving their work with increasing independence.

why-creativity

Why Creativity Matters More as Technology Advances

As technology, including AI, makes creation easier, creativity becomes less about producing an output and more about giving the work purpose and direction. The learner’s role is to decide what is worth creating, communicate the intention clearly, make deliberate choices and judge whether the result does what it was meant to do.

The Creative Series develops these capabilities through practical work, helping learners use increasingly capable technology without handing over the decisions that make the work meaningful.

creative-capability

What the Creative Series Develops

The Creative Series builds capability in how learners form ideas, turn them into practical work, solve problems and improve what they create.

The curriculum develops these capabilities through lessons, projects and repeated cycles of creation and revision, helping learners take increasing ownership of both the process and the result.

  • 01

    Intent

Decide what the work should achieve before choosing how to create it.

  • 02

    Expression

Communicate ideas through code, visuals, language or mathematical structure.

  • 03

    Technical Capability

Understand and use the concepts, methods and tools of the chosen medium.

  • 04

    Problem-Solving

Break a larger challenge into parts and work through what is not yet working.

  • 05

    Judgement

Compare the result with the original purpose and identify what is missing or unclear.

  • 06

    Iteration

Use feedback and observation to improve the work across successive versions.

  • 07

    Creative Independence

Take increasing ownership of planning, making, explaining and presenting the work.

learning-framework

HashHackCode Learning Framework

Every Creative Series course follows the HashHackCode learning framework, moving from foundational concepts and guided practice into more complex, self-directed creation. Each stage increases the creative ownership, decision-making and independent application expected of the learner.

CourseTrackStageModuleLevelLessonProject

01Course
A broad creative domain such as coding, design, language or mathematics.
02Track
A specialised technology, medium or skill area within the course.
03Stage
A progression from foundational understanding to increasingly independent creation.
04Module
A complete learning experience combining lessons, assessment, practice and applied work.
05Level
One of three depths: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
06Lesson
A structured experience developing one concept, technique or practical skill.
07Project
A practical application that brings learning together through planning, creation and refinement.

creative-progression

Three Stages of Creative Progression

Creative independence develops through three connected stages. Learners first establish the concepts, tools and working processes of a track, then apply them with greater decision-making and finally take more responsibility for defining and refining original work.

  1. stage/fundamental

    Fundamental

Learners establish the essential concepts, tools and working processes through structured guidance and practice. The focus is on building secure understanding before greater independence is introduced.

  2. stage/creator

    Creator

Learners apply the same capabilities in more complete work, make more decisions and combine skills with increasing independence. Guidance remains available while the learner carries more of the creative process.

  3. stage/artist

    Artist

Learners apply their skills at greater depth and use AI to extend what they can create. AI expands what can be executed, while the learner remains responsible for the intention, decisions and quality of the work.

creative-courses

Creative Series Courses

Each Creative Series course develops a different combination of creative and technical skills while following the same progression towards greater capability and independence.

Creative SeriesAvailable

Creative Coding

Creative Coding develops computational thinking, decomposition, sequencing and debugging through text-based programming and creative projects. Learners use code to create digital art, patterns, animations and interactive experiences, exploring how logic and technology can become tools for creative expression.

Creative SeriesAvailable

Creative Coding Junior

Creative Coding Junior introduces computational thinking through block-based programming and visual coding environments. Learners develop sequencing, cause-and-effect understanding, visual reasoning and early coding confidence by seeing how each instruction changes the outcome.

Creative SeriesAvailable

Creative Design

Creative Design develops visual communication and design judgement through graphic design and video editing foundations. Learners decide what an idea needs to communicate, make deliberate design choices and evaluate whether the final work serves that intention.

Creative SeriesUpcoming

Creative English

Creative English develops reading, comprehension, writing and clear expression through stories, information, ideas and creative work. Learners understand what they read, organise their thinking and communicate with purpose and use generative AI to apply, test and refine those ideas through content, images and other creative outcomes.

Creative SeriesUpcoming

Creative Math

Creative Math develops mathematical reasoning through patterns, numbers, spatial relationships, quantitative thinking and practical problem-solving. Learners use mathematics to understand relationships, frame problems, make decisions and evaluate solutions rather than only follow procedures.

future-ready

Building Future-Ready Capability

Each Creative Series course develops capability that transfers across learning, creation and technology.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Creative Series extends beyond coding into design, language, mathematics and digital creation. Each course uses a different medium while developing the learner’s ability to form ideas, make decisions, solve problems and improve what they create.

The starting point depends on the learner’s readiness, interests and preferred way of creating. HashHackCode considers existing understanding, learning goals and support needs when identifying an appropriate course, track, stage and level.

Learners can begin without previous experience. The Fundamental stage establishes the essential concepts, tools and working processes needed before the learner moves into more independent application.

Creative Coding uses text-based programming with technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python to create digital art, interactive experiences and other creative projects. Creative Coding Junior uses block-based and visual programming to develop sequencing, cause-and-effect understanding and computational thinking through a more visual starting point.

Learners progress through Fundamental → Creator → Artist stages while developing from Beginner → Intermediate → Advanced within modules. Progress is based on demonstrated understanding and the ability to apply learning with increasing independence.

Projects bring several capabilities together. Learners have to plan, make decisions, apply what they know, respond when something does not work as intended and improve the result, making both their thinking and growing independence visible through what they create.

Different Creative Series courses can be combined according to the learner’s interests, readiness and goals. Learning can also move across courses as capabilities develop and new areas of creative work become relevant.

The Logic Series builds the thinking, while the Creative Series puts that thinking to work through coding, design, language, mathematics and digital creation. Together, they form the wider HashHackCode curriculum.

Creative Coding, Creative Coding Junior and Creative Design are currently available. Creative English and Creative Math are upcoming.

Learners first build the concepts, technical skills and creative judgement needed to make and evaluate work independently. At the Artist stage, AI extends what they can create while the learner remains responsible for the intention, decisions, evaluation and refinement of the work.

A laptop or computer with Google Chrome and a stable internet connection is recommended for the Creative Series. Specific requirements may vary depending on the course and the tools being used.

The Creative Series is available through HashHackCode Academy, HashHackCode Schools and HashHackCode Educators. Free access to selected lessons can also be requested to experience the HashHackCode learning framework before choosing a pathway.
